The early Emperor penguins expedition is one of the rarest wildlife experiences on Earth. Timed precisely for November, the journey coincides with the moment emperor penguin chicks emerge at Atka Bay, still covered in soft grey down as they gather together while their parents stand watch on the frozen sea.

Guests depart on a private charter flight from Cape Town, crossing the Southern Ocean to land on a blue-ice runway deep within Antarctica’s interior – an arrival few travelers in the world will ever experience.

From here, the journey unfolds across stark, untouched landscapes to reach the emperor penguin colony itself. The scale is immense, the silence profound. Seeing Antarctica penguins at this early stage of life is intimate, humbling, and a fleeting natural moment witnessed by very few.

Immersed in the Antarctic interior

While in Antarctica, guests stay at Explorer Camp, White Desert’s seasonal expedition camp set beneath dramatic ice escarpments in the continent’s interior.
