Are you ready?
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport in Arusha, a local Ker & Downey® Africa staff member will assist you with your 30-minute luxury transfer to Gran Melia to start this East Africa tour. This luxurious hotel is located on the edge of town, but still close enough to feel the energy and vibe. After checking in you will have time to explore the hotel and freshen up, while enjoying the breathtaking surroundings. On day 2, enjoy a delicious breakfast of everything from organic eggs to freshly-made waffles. After breakfast, our local guide will collect you for a half day guided tour of Arusha. This tour includes visits to the Arusha Central Market, craft shops, the Natural History Museum and independence monuments, while giving you a glimpse of the local culture. Return back to the hotel just after lunch to relax. In the afternoon, you will be assisted with a transfer to the domestic airport where you will embark on an experience of a lifetime – a scenic light aircraft flight over one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Gran Meliá Arusha is located on 18 acres of beautifully landscaped coffee and tea plantations in the heart of Arusha. Enjoy incredible views of the surrounding gardens with Mount Meru as a backdrop, and treat yourself to a spa treatment, swim in the heated pool, or gym workout. This is the perfect place to start your safari adventure.
With the only rooftop bar in Arusha, this is the perfect spot to enjoy sundowners while overlooking the exquisite 18 acres of lush, manicured gardens and tea and coffee plantations. On a clear day you can enjoy clear views of Mount Meru – Mount Kilimanjaro’s ‘little sister’. We recommend indulging in the gourmet buffet at the hotel’s main restaurant for dinner.
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, your guide will drive you to your next destination in the Tarangire National Park. The drive is approximately 3 hours, with a picnic lunch stop en route. You will arrive at Elewana Tarangire Treetops just after lunch for your check in and 2 magical adventure-filled days and nights. You will be welcomed by the local Maasai community on arrival. This secluded lodge sits alone in a 312km2 community wildlife area and borders Tarangire National Park, so you can be assured absolute privacy and exclusivity. This also means that night game drives can be conducted – an exciting addition to a safari experience and an opportunity to see some of the nocturnal creatures of the bush. Another highlight is that you will have private game drives with your very own professional guide from the Ker & Downey® Africa staff in Arusha. The same guide will remain with you for these private game drives.
Tarangire Treetops comprises 20 luxurious suites elevated above the ground with views over the tops of surrounding marula and baobab trees. Each suite boasts a floor space of 65 square meters with an exotic double shower en suite bathroom. Enjoy a gourmet dinner in the boma, or refreshing dip in the swimming pool with a Serengeti Lager in hand.
Enjoy an authentic safari experience with custom 4×4 game drives, guided walking safaris, bird watching and a cultural visit to a nearby Maasai village. Located in close proximity to an active watering hole, you will be able to watch a plethora of wildlife coming and going from the comfort of your deck at the lodge. During your stay a gourmet bush picnic will also be provided, as well as a thrilling night game drive.
Following a hearty breakfast after your morning safari activity (which can be either arranged in the bush or at the main camp) your Ker & Downey® Africa guide will collect and transfer you through to the Ngorongoro area and on to your next destination. The scenic drive is about 4 hours with a stop at the famous Lake Manyara. Here, you will enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of this iconic soda lake. Depending on the time of year, you may get to see the thousands of pink-hued flamingos that visit this breathtaking natural marvel – make sure you have your cameras ready! You will arrive at Entamanu Ngorongoro in the late afternoon. This stay is sure to be a highlight as you will get to witness the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera, formed three million years ago, and yet another of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa.
Situated high on the famed Ngorongoro crater rim, Entamanu Ngorongoro Tented Camp has seven luxurious en-suite tents that overlook the crater amidst ancient acacia trees and dormant volcanic hills. Each suite features a private viewing deck and can be completely disassembled to leave no mark on its pristine environment.
Enjoy a private Ngorongoro Crater descent with your guide on the 2nd day of your stay at Entamanu – this is a major bucket list experience! Other highlights include bush picnics, guided walks in the surrounding highlands and Maasai village visits. End your days with a sundowner overlooking paradise.
Enjoy your last safari activity at the Ngorongoro Crater before your private transfer to the airstrip at Manyara. From here you will board your scheduled light aircraft flight over the plains to the central Serengeti. Upon arrival at the Seronera airstrip you will be collected by one of the camp staff and embark on a 40-minute game drive from the airstrip to your next lodge. This game-rich area is known for its high populations of buffalo, giraffes, elephants, hyenas and big cats like lions and cheetahs. It is also home to the Great Wildebeest Migration which you will be able to witness if you visit during migration season. This marvel of nature is one of the most incredible Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. After check in you will have an opportunity to really take in the sights and sounds of the bush which appear even closer due to the camp’s location on the mountain. Enjoy 3 incredible nights at this extraordinary camp with the most amazing stargazing – this will be your evening bush TV. From morning game drives, afternoon game drives, full day game drives, bird watching, bush meals and more, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the Serengeti.
Stay in one of 8 classic en-suite tents with luxurious amenities including Persian carpets, a writing desk, double basin vanity and rain showers. 2 family tents are connected with an enclosed walkway and ideal for bigger groups or families. Each tent leads out onto a private verandah, with breathtaking views of the surrounding Serengeti plains.
Enjoy twice daily 4×4 game drives and romantic sundowners around the fire, surrounded by lanterns. We recommend sampling the Konyagi (local rum). Private champagne bush breakfasts, lunches and/or dinners can also be arranged. We recommend pre-booking a sunrise hot air balloon safari to top off this truly authentic safari experience of the East Africa tour.
Enjoy a delicious final breakfast at camp before embarking on your return transfer to the Seronera Airstrip. From here, you will board a light aircraft for a 2-hour flight to Arusha. From here, another 45-minute road transfer will take you to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your outbound international flight home.
