Ker & Downey® Africa > Trips > Bush & Beach Safari in Tanzania & Zanzibar
Some things were meant to go together, and bush and beach is a combination that simply can’t be beat. Leave the conventional behind as you set out on foot through Tanzania’s most iconic destinations. See the Ngorongoro Crater from a vantage point perched on the edge of a volcano, track game in the Serengeti in 250,000-acres of private land, and find yourself alone on one of the world’s most coveted beaches in Zanzibar.
As soon as you set foot in Kilimanjaro airport, a Ker & Downey Africa representative will be there to welcome you to Tanzania. You will spend one night at Lake Duluti Lodge to get your bearings before embarking on the journey of a lifetime.
Lake Duluti Lodge has an African feel with a dose of the contemporary. Set on a coffee farm on the outskirts of Arusha, each of the chalets boast a private deck with idyllic views of the farm’s indigenous trees. Gourmet cuisine and first-class service are par for the course here. Even so, staying at Lake Duluti Lodge feels like a private home more than a five-star hotel.
Lake Duluti Lodge has an African feel with a dose of the contemporary. Set on a coffee farm on the outskirts of Arusha, each of the chalets boast a private deck with idyllic views of the farm’s indigenous trees.
Depart Lake Duluti Lodge early this morning for Arusha Airport and a scheduled flight to Manyara at 7:45am. A shared lodge vehicle will be waiting to escort you to The Highlands in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Sprawling over 8,000 square kilometers northwest of the world-famous crater is the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, an award winning “Big 5” wildlife zone. The Highlands is undeniably stylish and enviably secluded while remaining accessible to the most adventurous experiences this area has to offer. Set north of the Ngorongoro Crater on the foothills of the Olmoti Volcano, this camp is your ideal launch-point for exploration.
The complex narrative between humans and wildlife begs to be discovered. The Maasai have cultivated an affinity for nature and an ability to coexist. During your time at The Highlands, you are well positioned to forge authentic relationships with local community members and discover more about the culture.
It may be hard to leave the contemporary oasis that The Highlands camp provides, but adventure abounds here too, and it’s your duty to get involved. Summit the Olmoti Crater, and set off on game drives to track wildlife with expert guides.
A short flight will leave Manyara at 8:20am and arrive to Mwiba at 8:40am. Mwiba Lodge’s exceptional staff will give you a taste of African hospitality with a welcome on arrival. For the next two days, Mwiba Lodge is your new home. The lodge’s 125,000-acres of private game reserve are engulfed by the Serengeti, perhaps the world’s most coveted safari destination.
Visitors to Mwiba reap the benefits of total seclusion in an area that is in high demand. Set beside the Arugusinyai River, the lodge offers sweeping views and consistent wildlife sightings. 33 freshwater springs pulse to the dry earth’s surface, providing wildlife with all the incentive they need to flock to Mwiba’s heartland and giving guests unparalleled sightings.
On the inside, the décor and interior materials echo the surrounding environment. Earthy browns and beiges with classy appointments and modern design say one thing: sophistication. Step outside of the rooms’ canvas walls to find large outdoor soaking tubs and hardwood viewing decks.
Mwiba prides itself on offering its myriad of activities anytime, anywhere. Set off on game drives into the lodge’s private concession, back into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, or into the Serengeti. Enjoy lunch on a lofted tree platform, visit traditional local communities, put foot to ground for a walking safari, or hit the spa and gym.
Get ready to change gears as you transfer to the Mwiba airstrip to fly to Zanzibar at 11:00am this morning. The beach is waiting for you, and a staff member from Baraza Resort will be waiting to take you there.
For the next four days, you will stay in this idyllic location in an incredible Ocean Front View Villa. Baraza is one of Zanzibar’s most exclusive resorts. Set on one of Conde Nast’s best 30 beaches, this 5-star property deftly blends Arabic, Swahilli, and Indian design. Intricate details and antiques evoke a sense of Zanzibar’s eclectic history. Family owned and operated, Baraza Resort was built to reflect the beauty, culture, and uniqueness of Zanzibar. This is certainly nothing ordinary about this place.
