This exciting trip allows you to witness the incredible collection of cultural and historical sites from majestic palaces, the oldest university in the world, remains of ancient imperial cities, exquisite mosques, archaeological sites, vast monuments, and more. The itinerary includes sought-after destinations like Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fres, the Sahara Desert, Skoura, Marrakech and Essaouira and will provide you with a better understanding of the history and culture of this intriguing country.
Enjoy VIP fast track services from the moment you touch down at the Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport. Once through customs, you will meet with a Ker & Downey® Africa representative who will transfer you in a luxury vehicle to your hotel. Begin your UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Morocco LuxVenture® in style and the Hôtel Le Doge – Relais & Châteaux, a luxury boutique hotel located in Casablanca’s intriguing Art Deco district. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the 5th-floor rooftop with a panoramic view over the city and in the evening dine at the in-house Le Jasmine restaurant which combines fresh local produce with authentic Moroccan flavors.
The Relais & Châteaux luxury boutique hotel is situated in the peaceful Art Deco district of Casablanca. The magnificent former private mansion, built in the 1930s, comprises 16 individually decorated guest rooms, each featuring an elegant sitting area and luxurious marble bathroom.
Pay a visit to a traditional Moroccan Hammam, or steam bath, and unwind amongst the relaxing scents of eucalyptus and jasmine. In the afternoon/early evening relax on the rooftop terrace of your luxurious Art Deco hotel while sipping on a refreshing mint tea or signature cocktail. If you would like to soak up the sights and sounds of Casablanca, take an easy stroll into the city centre, situated just 790m from your hotel.
After a gourmet breakfast, you will be taken to visit the opulent Hassan II Mosque – the second-largest functioning mosque in Africa and the seventh-largest in the world. The Hassan II Mosque has the world’s second tallest minaret at 201 meters that has become the city’s landmark. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a guided tour to the Habous traditional quarter, which was built by the French Protectorate in the 1920s. Casablanca is well known for its architectural heritage and this area contains many open-air souks (markets) selling fabrics, olives, fruit and dried fruit, and more. In the late afternoon, a driver will collect and transfer you 1 hour by road to Rabat. Here, you will check in to the Riad Dar Shâan – a luxury Riad in the heart of Rabat Medina. On your third day, you embark on a morning guided tour of Rabat visiting the Roman archeological site Chellah, before continuing towards the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Riad Dar Shâan is centrally located in the Medina, just 200m from Laalou Avenue and a 10-minute walk from the beach. Each luxuriously appointed room has a private patio with an outdoor seating area. You can relax in the swimming pool during the hot summer months or on the terrace enjoying the city views.
With the Riad being located near the 12th century Oudaya Kasbah – one of the most unique sites in Morocco and the first milestone of the city of Rabat – these historical UNESCO World Heritage Site streets are not to be missed. Explore the area, including the medieval fortress that was the first settlement in Rabat, the Andalusian garden, and indulge in a meal along the Bou Regreg River.
After a delicious continental breakfast at Riad Dar Shâan, you will meet your guide and driver who will escort you to Tangier, a scenic 2-hour 40-minute drive from Rabat. Tangier has a blend of unique cultures and influences. You will check in to your next boutique Riad, Nord-Pinus, at around midday and enjoy a late lunch on the terrace. After lunch, your guide will take you on an introductory walking tour of Tangier, the local Kashab, and its museum. At sunset, visit the Café Hafa overlooking the bay for a Moroccan mint tea. This iconic café has been around since the 1920s and has had many famous visitors including The Beatles and Sean Connery. In the early evening, enjoy a live cultural music show at the Les Fils du Détroit. Dinner is at your leisure.
This beautiful former 18th-century palace is situated near the ocean with magnificent views over Tangier and the Atlantic Ocean. It is on the highest point of the Kasbah, in the most historical part of the city, and is built on the foundations of the old Roman town of Tingis.
Due to the location of the Riad, your stay includes cultural and historical highlights including exploring the winding alleys of the Kasbah. You will also visit the Dar al-Makhzen or Sultanate Palace – a historical building and museum in Tangier, built in the 17th century by Sultan Moulay Ismail as his palace.
At 10.30 am your guide and driver will assist you in your transfer as you depart on the next leg of your UNESCO journey that takes you via Tetouan to Chefchaouen, on a picturesque drive through the Rif Mountains. Your first stop will be in the town of Tetouan to view talented local artisans at work as they create beautiful handcrafted items out of wood, leather, precious metals, wool, plaster, tiles and other traditional materials. This town was founded in the late 13th century and serves as Morocco’s most important port, with a blend of Arabic and Spanish culture. In the late afternoon, you will check in to the Riad Dar Jasmine in Chefhauouen where you can enjoy a delicious meal at their fabulous in-house restaurant.
Chefchaouen is known as the ‘blue city’ and is considered one of the most picturesque destinations in all of Morocco. Enjoy exploring the bright streets and photographing the distinctive buildings between relaxing in the hotel gardens or enjoying a drink on the terrace watching the sunset over this vibrant port town.
After breakfast, you will enjoy a guided morning tour of this 15th-century town which was originally a Moorish fortress, serving as a fortress for Jewish exiles from Spain. Make sure to take your camera as there are many interesting arches, domes, pillars, parapets and even a small prison to explore and photograph. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided leisurely hike of Talassemtane National Park – a Unesco World Heritage Site and the only place where Moroccan firs and 47 other endemic plant species can be found. After the hike, your driver will transfer you 3h 50mins through the ever-changing countryside to the town of Fez. Here you will check in to the luxurious Riad Palais Amani for the next 3 nights.
The Palais Amani was once one of the finest palaces and the former home of one of Fez’s most prominent families. Retaining its original Arab-Andalusian architecture, this opulent 18 bedroom house boasts its own restaurant, cooking school, two licensed bars, and luxurious traditional hammam.
This is an exciting day with a fascinating hike in the Talassemtane National Park and a guided tour of the town with its distinctive powder-blue buildings. Once in Fez, enjoy a traditional spa treatment at the luxurious hammam, or a hand at preparing your own Moroccan food at the cooking school.
We have lined up two guided tours during your time in Fez. The first tour will take you on a journey through the cultural capital of Fez to learn about its unique heritage, including visiting the first library in the world, as well as the neighborhood of Mellah. Walk around the 14th-century Medina, the alley of Fes el Bali and take pictures of the golden gates of the Royal Palace. The tour will be followed by sunset drinks on the rooftop of the Sahrai Hotel with sweeping views over the city. After drinks, we recommend dinner at one of the local restaurants, Le Tarbouche or Al Oud, for delicious authentic cuisine served in tagines. The second tour will take you further afield to explore historical sites including the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the Grand Mosque, and a stroll around the small town of Meknes. This town is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Bab Mansour Gate – an ancient wooden gate to the once imperial city of Bab Mansour, which is a spectacular example of Almohad architecture. Lunch will be at a local Moroccan restaurant called the Scorpion House, which is set in a beautiful, authentic Moroccan home with incredible views of Moulay Idriss – an important pilgrimage site. In the evening you will return to Fez, where you can dine in at your Riad or enjoy a meal out in Fez. We recommend Dar Roumana, which serves traditional Moroccan cuisine set around a central courtyard.
The Palais Amani was once one of the finest palaces, and the former home of one of Fez’s most prominent families. Retaining its original Arab-Andalusian architecture, this opulent 18 bedroom house boasts its own restaurant, cooking school, two licensed bars, and luxurious traditional hammam.
After breakfast on the rooftop of your Riad, your driver will transfer you on a scenic drive through the cedar forest in Ifrane, stopping for lunch en-route at a local inn around midday. After lunch, continue through the Ziz Valley, close to the Atlas Mountains before arriving at the start of the Sahara Desert via an ancient caravan route. A 4×4 vehicle will meet you at the collection point and drive you to the camp. Upon arrival, you can freshen up and relax before departing a serene camel ride through the desert. Return to camp for a nomad-style dinner with drumming around the campfire.
This Sahara Desert Luxury Camp is situated in the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, which are the largest in the country. The camp offers 10 spacious en-suite luxury tents that are a blend of traditional Moroccan and contemporary decor. The camp caters for families with triple and quadruple tents.
Relax and take in the ever-changing colors of the desert and enjoy a special night under the stars. At sunset, a camel ride will take you right to the top of the dunes for magnificent views of the desert. There are also motorised activities on quad bikes and dune buggies, as well as sand-boarding available. For something special, we recommend a 4×4 excursion to the local town of Merzouga, where you can visit a nomadic family in their home.
After breakfast in the dining tent, you will depart with your driver to a region called Rose Valley for a short walk to stretch your legs. The valley is full of rose blooms in May and helps generate income for the local villagers. It is here that you can buy traditional rose water, an ancient beauty secret revered by Moroccan women. After Rose Valley, you will visit the extraordinary Todra and Dadès Gorges, and admire the striking red limestone walls, towering buttes, and spectacular winding rivers. Then onto Skoura, a small town known for its palm groves, markets, and ancient ruins of Kasbah Amridil. Spend a few hours with your guide exploring the Kasbah Amridil which was once an ancient, rammed-earth fortress built in the 17th century. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Ait Boulemane and check-in at Riad Caravane. End the day with a hearty meal at your Riad, in the heart of this quaint village.
After breakfast, you will spend the morning visiting the world-renowned Ksar of Ait-ben-Haddou, a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco and the film set for many Hollywood movies from Lawrence of Arabia to Gladiator and the recent hit TV series, Game of Thrones. You will then take a picturesque drive across the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech where you will check in to Riad Antara. The next few days in Marrakech are dedicated to seeing some incredible sites that this ancient city – also referred to as the ‘Ochre City – has to offer. You will enjoy a walking tour in the old Medina, through the narrow streets of the souks (markets), stopping at the Koutoubia Mosque and the Secret Garden as well as the mesmerizing Dar el Bacha. You will also visit the Berber Museum and then the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, featuring the famous collections largely inspired by the colours of Marrakech.
Riad Antara is a boutique hotel rebuilt on the foundations of an old Saadian residence. The hotel features 7 beautifully appointed rooms, as well as a 24-hour front desk service, room service, an in-house hammam, restaurant, coffee shop, deli, and heated swimming pool with an outdoor terrace. Many attractions are within walking distance.
Explore the local markets and enjoy what is regarded as the best shopping destination in Morocco. Local tradesmen and artisans can be found selling ceramics, spices, tea sets, argan oil, lanterns, leather bags, rugs and carpets, silver jewelry, woven blankets and more. Visit a traditional hammam for a relaxing spa treatment after a busy day out.
After breakfast, you will meet your driver for the last day of your journey. After a beautiful drive along the coastline, you will arrive at Val d’Argan organic vineyards – one of the finest examples of biodynamic wines. You will have some timtwitte here to relax and walk around the property, followed by a wine tasting and a delicious lunch. In the late afternoon, continue to the lively seaside town of Essaouira. Here, you will check in to Heure Bleue Palais for the night and enjoy a guided walk in the charming whitewashed Medina. If you are a fan of the series Game of Thrones, you will recognize some of the streets, as this is where some of the famous TV series scenes were filmed. After returning back to Heure Bleue Palais, we recommend having dinner on the rooftop of Taros Restaurant – a great space from which to admire the city.
Heure Bleue Palais is a member of the esteemed Relais & Chateaux and has very distinctive decor in each of its 33 rooms & suites. Situated at the bay of this port town, the property was once a palace and holds a long, rich history. The hotel boasts a heated rooftop swimming pool and tropical courtyard gardens, as well as four different dining areas serving international cuisines, including tapas.
Today is the final day of your amazing UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Morocco LuxVenture®. After breakfast, your driver will head back to the Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport.
