Your 9 day South Africa friends and family safari starts on arrival at Cape Town International Airport. Touch down and be greeted by your dedicated Ker & Downey® Africa representative who will be ready to escort your group to Villa Normandie, your home for the next three nights. Located along the exclusive Atlantic Seaboard, Villa Normandie is situated in the affluent suburb of Fresnaye, a mere 30-minute drive from the airport. Boasting views of both the city and the Atlantic ocean, the 3 bedroom villa is ideal for family and group stays and has been strategically designed to appeal to both adults, teens and young children. With stylish entertainment areas at the centre of the home, Villa Normandie features a spacious open plan living room and an entertainment room with gaming consoles, toys, a foosball table and a plush TV lounge.

Leading out to a private garden and terrace, you will find the sports den, equipped with a full-size snooker table. The garden features an enclosed swimming pool with sun loungers for lazy days by the pool, a trampoline to keep the little ones entertained for hours as well as a barbecue area. After a seamless check-in, you will have time to unwind after your travels before venturing out to the city to one of Cape Town’s numerous family-friendly restaurants.

City and Cape Point Tour

For the next two days, you are free to enjoy the sights Cape Town has to offer according to your family’s mood and interests. Wake up at your own pace and enjoy a stroll along the scenic Sea Point promenade before breakfast. If your family enjoys the outdoors and would like to explore the mountain we can recommend a variety of hiking trails to pursue. Alternatively, you can spend some time at the V&A Waterfront that offers fun activities for both you and the children. Art lovers can flock to the Zeitz Mocca for Africa’s largest collection of contemporary art, while the youngsters visit the 2 Ocean’s Aquarium. Other activities at the Waterfront include boat trips to Robben Island, cinemas and the South African Rugby Museum. For something cultural visit one of Cape Town’s fascinating museums or wander through the cobbled streets of the colourful Bo-Kaap.

Venture further afield on a day trip to where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet on a day tour to Cape Point or enjoy a laid back day in the Cape Winelands. Visit one of the country’s largest penguin colonies at Boulder’s Beach before returning to the city along Chapman’s Peak drive.

Transfer to Franschhoek

Check-in La Clé Des Montagnes

After a hearty breakfast overlooking the Atlantic ocean at Villa Normandie, your driver will meet you for your transfer to Franschhoek, a short 1-hour drive away. Amidst mountains and rolling vineyards, your base for the next 2 nights is the exclusive Galerie Villa at the historic La Clé Des Montagnes. An elegant mix of modern interiors and traditional Cape Dutch architecture, the villa features 2 ensuite bedrooms, an expansive living space, open plan kitchen and private garden. After check-in, you will have time to unwind at your private pool and enjoy the mountain views from your sun terrace. As the sunsets over the Franschhoek Valley, the chefs will light the coals for you to experience a traditional South African ‘braai’. Enjoy a family feast of local meats, sweet glazed lamb chops, grilled seafood as well as fresh salads and delicious roast vegetables.

Today, you can choose from a variety of activities to fill your day from exploring the surrounding areas by bicycle to a casual game of boules and croquet on the estate lawn. For lunch, enjoy a picnic basket filled to the brim with a selection of fresh bread, local cheese, charcuterie and a selection of fresh produce. If you’re traveling with your family, spend the afternoon relaxing over a board game while the little ones enjoy a variety of toys, DVD’s, sports sets and books or join them in a cookie baking class*. For dinner, make your way to Manoir for an inspired dining experience or enjoy a hearty home-style meal in the privacy of your villa.

Transfer to Madikwe Game Reserve

Check-in Morukuru River House

After a final breakfast in the Cape Winelands, your driver will meet you for your transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your 2-hour flight to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. From here, enjoy a mere 1-hour charter flight to Madikwe Airstrip where your dedicated lodge representative will be waiting to escort you to the exclusive Morokuru River House. Lining the border of Botswana, Morokuru River House is located in a private concession in South Africa’s premier safari destination, Madikwe Game Reserve. The malaria-free reserve covers an area of 75,000 hectares and is home to a plethora of wildlife including the Big 5 as well as wild dogs, hippos and cheetah. Located on the banks of the Marico River, Morukuru River Lodge is ideal for a group or family safari and features 3 air-conditioned, ensuite rooms, each boasting large private decks overlooking the African bush. An eclectic mix of European styling and African pieces, the private lodge flows seamlessly from indoor to outdoor offering plenty of opportunities for alfresco dining. The fully-staffed lodge, including a private chef and nanny, accommodates families with ease, with a separate family room sleeping up to four children, where they have access to game consoles, computers, TV and a selection of DVDs. After check-in, you will have time to unpack before embarking on a tailored evening game drive with your private safari guide and tracker. A staff team of 7-8 members will take care of your family’s every need during your stay. This includes a chef, butler, hostess, babysitter, housekeepers, private safari guide and tracker.

You can enjoy optional morning and afternoon game drives, discover Madikwe on guided bush walks and learn how to fish in the Marico River. Day seven – eight

Madikwe Game Reserve

Safari & bush walks

Wake up to the sound of the African bush and make your way into the reserve for an early morning game drive. Each safari vehicle is equipped with a variety of snacks and drinks, including a hot cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate for those chilly morning game drives. Enjoy breakfast in the bush or make your way back to the lodge for a hearty, cooked breakfast prepared by your private chef. After breakfast, pull on your walking shoes and make your way back out into the private concession for a guided walking safari. If you’re on a family safari with children under the age of 16, you can enjoy an educational stroll through the 100-hectare, predator-free, fenced area while learning about insects, plants and fascinating bush survival tactics alongside your expert guide.

In the afternoon, leave the kids in the trusted hands of your onsite nanny and choose from a variety of massage treatments on the banks of Marico River. If you’re feeling active you can choose to embark on a catch-and-release fishing safari under the expert guidance of your ranger or visit to the local village dam for an afternoon of skiing, tubing and soaking up the sun from the Morukuru boat. After a sunset drink on the water, head back to Morukuru River House for a traditional South African braai at the riverside.

Charter flight to Johannesburg

Day 9 marks the final day of your South African friends and family safari. After breakfast and a seamless checkout of Morukuru River House, your driver will be waiting to transfer you to Madikwe Airstrip for your charter flight back to Johannesburg and onward journey home.
