This Treehouse Safari LuxVenture® takes you some of South Africa’s most iconic destinations, starting off in the diverse city of Johannesburg, journeying onwards for a safari on a private reserve in the Kruger National Park and concluding your adventure in Cape Town, voted as one of the top cities in the world. Your time in Johannesburg will be brief but will give you a taste of the cosmopolitan capital of South Africa and its vibrant culture. Your African Safari in the Lion Sands Reserve will take you on epic Big 5 game drives, walking safaris and a unique treehouse sleep-out experience under the stars. Last, but certainly not least, you will visit the City of Cape Town. Sample local flavors on a food tour through the city or visit the penguins on Boulders Beach on a tour to the Cape Peninsula. Surrounded by ocean, mountains, and the Winelands, there is no shortage of options when it comes to filling your days in the Mother City.
Start your Kruger safari in the City of Gold, Johannesburg. A Ker & Downey Africa® representative will meet you at O.R. Tambo International Airport and transfer you to The Peech Boutique Hotel, a 45 minute drive from the airport. Located in a chic residential suburb of Joburg, your hotel is only a short walk away from the bustle of Melrose and Sandton – sought after neighbourhoods in the city. You will have endless choices of good restaurants, cafes, and shopping boutiques during your stay. The Peech was built in the 1950’s as a private residence, adding to its homely, welcoming feel. There are 16 rooms at the hotel, with 2 Heritage rooms within the main house and 14 bedrooms spread across the one acre property, each with a private patio facing the lush gardens. Spend the afternoon exploring the city or refresh after a long journey at the outdoor swimming pool. As the day draws to a close, enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the bar where you can choose between locally sourced craft beers, spirits or wines. For dinner, make your way into the city or visit the hotel’s bistro style restaurant, serving dishes designed to use only the freshest ingredients from its very own vegetable garden and local suppliers.

Today you’re off to the Kruger National Park, but not before a hearty breakfast. Your driver will meet you at The Peech Boutique Hotel and transfer you to O.R. Tambo International Airport where you will board your scheduled one hour flight to Skukuza. A private road transfer will take you into the Lion Sands Game Reserve, a private reserve within the Kruger National Park. Tinga Lodge, your base for the next 3 nights, is perched above the Sabie River. The 9 luxury suites each have a private deck with a plunge pool that overlooks the river where you can see wildlife drinking from the banks. After an afternoon high tea, it’s time for your first Kruger safari experience. Your private guide and tracker will take you through the park, which boasts the highest concentration of game per hectare on the planet. Your game drive will give you the opportunity to spot members of the Big 5, as well as giraffe, hippos, hyena and wildebeest.
The perks of a safari in a private reserve such as Lion Sands is the fact that game drives can be taken off road to give you an up close look at the wildlife in their natural habitat. After a successful game drive return to the main lodge for a world class dinner or choose to dine on your private deck.
Rise and shine, it’s time for your sunrise game drive. Feel like you need to rest? Not to worry, all game drives are optional giving you the choice to sleep in or continue your search for more wildlife. Warm up with a strong cup of coffee before heading into the wild on your 2 hour game drive. After an adventurous morning on the reserve, you will head back to the lodge for a full English breakfast. If you’re feeling active, pull on a pair of comfortable walking shoes and continue your Kruger safari experience with a Big 5 walking safari. You will be accompanied by an expert guide and tracker who will take you through a pre-trail briefing before you explore the bush. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. Choose to wind down at the spa or hit the tracks again for an afternoon game drive.
Your ranger will stop at a scenic location for you to enjoy a glass of bubbles as the sun dips below the horizon. Tonight you can enjoy a bush dinner under the stars. A table surrounded by lanterns will be set up for you in the wild, where you can listen to the sounds of the bush while dining on African inspired dishes.
Wake up at your own pace or take to the bush for a morning game drive with a sunrise coffee stop before heading back to the main lodge for breakfast. Lunch can be enjoyed at the main lodge or alternatively you can request a lunch on your patio. Tonight you will be transferred to the Tinyeleti Treehouse for an overnight Kruger safari experience under the stars. The Treehouse can accommodate up to 4 people and overlooks the Sabie River. Worried about uninvited ‘guests’? Don’t be. The treehouse features a drawbridge and double safety doors to keep the wildlife at bay. Your ranger will leave you with a torch, radio communication, a gourmet picnic basket and drinks for you to enjoy at sunset while animals drink from the river across the way. Fall asleep watching shooting stars and listening to the calming sounds of the bush.
Wake up immersed in nature, before your ranger fetches you for one last breakfast at Tinga Lodge. Your driver will meet you after breakfast and transfer you to Skukuza Airport where you will continue on your journey to South Africa’s Mother City, Cape Town. After a 2 hour flight, you will be greeted by a Ker & Downey Africa representative who will accompany you into the heart of the city to MORE Quarters, your base for the next 3 nights. Set just off the buzzing Kloof Street, a local hotspot of activity, MORE Quarters is perfectly located and many restaurants, bars and boutiques are just a short walk away. There are 19 rooms at MORE Quarters all flanking a private cobbled street. Enjoy a late afternoon tea served with freshly baked goods in the main lounge, before making your way, on foot, through city to sample local goods on a food tour.
On the 6th and 7th day, wake up to a scrumptious breakfast of freshly baked breads and confectionaries while overlooking the city and Table Mountain. Cape Town has a variety of activities on offer to keep you busy over the next two days. Depending on your mood, you can choose to tour the Cape Peninsula, stopping off to see the penguins at Boulder’s Beach, Cape Point Nature Reserve and the quirky seaside town Kalk Bay, or you can choose to visit the Winelands to sample some of the country’s best local wines. Stay in the city and visit the V&A Waterfront, Zeitz MOCAA Contemporary Art Museum, the colourful Bo-Kaap, or take the cable car to catch a bird’s eye view of the city from the summit of Table Mountain. At night, discover fine dining restaurants in the city or unwind after an adventurous day at MORE Quarters and order from a selection of international favourites to be delivered to your room.
Day 8 marks the last day of your South African Kruger safari experience. After breakfast at MORE Quarters, your driver will transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your onward journey home.
