Kaingo, meaning ‘leopard’ in the local Nyanja language, is Shenton Safaris’ flagship camp that sits peacefully along the Luangwa River. Built in 1992, this intimate camp’s simple design aims to put guests at ease in their wild surroundings while providing an authentic safari experience in true Shenton family style. Warm hospitality coupled with an authentic bush adventure in the heart of Zambia awaits.
Kaingo’s expertly led game drives and bush walks enjoy exclusive access to an elaborate road network within the 80-kilometer squared area in which they operate. In a region that is widely considered one of the most game rich on the continent, guests are all but guaranteed incredible wildlife sightings that will no doubt include the big cats. In addition, Shenton Safaris’ distinctive network of photographic hides are easily accessible from the camp. These excellent hides provide a range of intimate wildlife viewing, and are a wildlife photographer’s dream.
Offering just six traditional brick and thatch chalets tucked discreetly along the banks of the river, guests are assured a genuine sense of being immersed in nature. Each generously sized and exquisitely decorated room offers a choice of an indoor shower or a luxurious outdoor bathtub, as well as solar-powered charging stations, a fan and a comfy king-sized bed. In between activities, guests can take in the views and sounds of the bush from the comfort of the private veranda, daybed, or private viewing deck perched high above the river.
