Ker & Downey Africa > Journal > Constance Lemuria, Praslin, Seychelles – Island Getaway
A Senior Consultant from the Central & Eastern European division visited Constance Lemuria in September 2022. Opened in 1999 and located on the northwest shore of Praslin Island, the resort is one of the island’s first luxury resorts. After having such an incredible experience, she would love to share information about this wonderful property with you.
There are only two options to get to Constance Lemuria. The first is by speed ferry from the main island of Mahe to Praslin, which takes about 50 minutes. The other is a domestic flight from Mahe Airport to Praslin Island Airport. The latter is more costly but only takes 15 minutes. From the airport or port it is a quick five minute road transfer to the resort.
Upon arrival, a golf cart transports you up the hill where friendly staff are on hand to give you a warm welcome. After entering the tranquil resort through two big wooden doors, you are met by the most stunning views of the warm Indian Ocean. I can honestly say the sight took my breath away and I felt as if I had just stepped into heaven. On the way to my room we passed resident tortoises, peacocks, chickens and guinea fowl in the lush gardens. I was impressed by how the buildings seamlessly blended in with the vegetation of this 370-acre property.
Check in was seamless and my luggage was already in place when we arrived in the suite. The room was decorated with fragrant flowers. We were happy with the efficiency of the air conditioner. If you are concerned with internet connection, the wireless internet worked very well and I found it to be very fast.
The resort boasts the only on-site 18-hole championship golf course in the Seychelles and provides fantastic vistas from any hole. As a resident of the resort, green fees are complimentary.
I highly recommend having dinner at each of the four restaurants at Constance Lemuria for a different culinary experience. A particular highlight was dinner at The Nest, which is located on a rock peninsula with phenomenal views of two different beaches. The beachfront eatery offers a more casual experience. In the evening I enjoyed sitting in the bar with a coconut juice cocktail where live music provided tranquil entertainment. Although I never tried it, I had heard that the Creole Smash is a popular drink in the area.
Breakfast is served in The Legend restaurant and provides a large selection of international dishes along with sparkling wine. They also cater to a variety of dietary requirements, with gluten-free bread and pastries available. The fruit bar is the closest counter to the entrance of the restaurant and I was particularly impressed by the extensive selection. I recommend trying the delicious chia pudding.
Constance Lemuria is home to an extensive collection of wines from all over the world. The resort offers wine tastings, wine pairings with dinner and bio wine tasting, although I didn’t experience this first hand.
There were plenty of land- and water-based activities available for those who want to keep active. The resort boasts two tennis courts, mountain bikes, a well-equipped gym, hiking trails, yoga sessions on the beach, beauty treatments at the in-house spa and of course the golf course. I really enjoyed the size of the gym and the range of equipment available, plus it had many windows with more fantastic views.
In terms of water sports, you can try your hand at windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, stand up paddle boarding and of course, enjoy the various swimming pools. The Seychelles offers some of the best dive sites in the world. You need not worry if you are a novice diver as the resort offers this experience to divers of all levels. I was informed that there are many brightly colored tropical fish, whale sharks and humpback whales that can be seen on their migration route while diving.
I really enjoyed these activities as well as early morning walks on the beach and dipping my toes in the warm ocean waters.
The luxury in-house spa offers utmost bliss. They have their own products made from local tropical plants with medicinal properties. Uniquely, even children are welcome to have a relaxing treatment here.
There are three different beaches to explore, including the pristine white-sand main beach, which is within a few steps from your room. One of the beaches, Anse Georgette, is located approximately 20 minutes on foot from the hotel, but well worth the walk. This beach is one of the greatest assets of the property and is even considered one of the most beautiful beaches in all of the Seychelles.
I would also suggest visiting other locations on Praslin Island including Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve. This is a nature park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It consists of a well-preserved palm forest, with flagship species made up of the island endemic coco de mer, as well as five other endemic palms.
Another area to visit is Praslin National Park, located in the heart of the island with many indigenous trees and various trails for hiking.
There are 105 thatch-roof suites in total, with various options. You can enjoy a stay in a tropical garden room, one of 88 junior suites, one of 8 senior suites, a hillside pool villa which has private plunge pools, or the presidential villa which is right by the beach. Each type of accommodation has a lovely setting.
The junior suites are just 15 meters from the shore and set amongst many palms. For families or a group of four or six friends, there are eight two- or three-bedroom family villas. One of the pool villas also has two bedrooms and all villas also enjoy butler service.
I feel that Constance Lemuria is suitable for families as there are so many different accommodation types. In addition, there are ample children-friendly facilities, all within short walking distance, including a dedicated Constance Kids Club for 4-11-year-olds that offers many fun-filled activities.
The resort is also home to a smaller children’s pool, further making it suitable for families. There are also various sized swimming pools at Constance Lemuria, some being infinity pools. The main pool is amazing as it flows from the hotel to the sea across three levels. Couples will also appreciate the resort as it has a number of spacious suites and villas along with four different restaurants and five bars.
There were many highlights for me at Constance Lemuria but some experiences stood out more than others. These were the interior of Diva restaurant, hikes to the beaches, the in-house spa and the golf course.
Thank you to Hilda who hosted me at the fabulous resort and showed me all the highlights of the property, as well as joined me for a magnificent dinner.
