Born and Bred

Prior to relocating to Cape Town, Lee cut his teeth as a corporate lawyer in London working for US law firm, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright. Lee graduated from Cambridge University with a Law degree and has completed an executive education programme at Harvard University.

During the financial crisis, the firm offered each employee a 3 month sabbatical, so Lee took the opportunity to travel to Kenya to live with the Maasai tribe, igniting his love for African travel and the bush.

According to Lee, law taught him the value of building a service that focused on exceptional customer service and attention to the smallest of details – an integral cog in the bespoke travel machine.

Highlight of his time at Ker & Downey® Africa

For Lee, he is proud to have built a team of passionate individuals who have created a company culture that thrives when delivering the very best safari experiences to clients.  Whether a concierge, a designer or an accountant, Lee believes that each employee at Ker & Downey® Africa has a keen interest in luxury travel and creating a sustainable future for Africa.

Lee’s favorite destination in Africa

Lee’s favourite destination is South Africa. It’s been his home for seven years and continues to delight. Lee loves the diversity of landscape, culture and experiences on offer. Joint second would be Tanzania and Morocco. Tanzania for the wildlife experience of the Serengeti and the majesty of Ngorongoro Crater. Morocco for its cuisine, architecture and nightlife!

“I want to know that my time on this planet has been well spent. I seek that feeling that comes from knowing that I’ve had a hand in creating something of intrinsic excellence that makes a contribution to society. I want to raise a son and daughter who feel secure, optimistic and inspired by the beauty of life.”
