This is a magical and mysterious trip that you will never forget.
Are you ready?
Upon arrival at the Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport you will be welcomed by a friendly and professional Ker & Downey® Africa representative who will assist you with your luggage. From there, it is a short 24 mile transfer to the vibrant capital city of Windhoek. You will arrive at the boutique hotel for the first night of your safari to Namibia. After check in, relax and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of the hotel. We also recommend trying one of the local dishes at either one of the restaurants in the city or at the in-house indoor and outdoor The Olive restaurant. Especially perfect in the summer months, where you can sit on the outdoor terrace.
Located in the quiet suburb of Windhoek, the 7 lavish all-suite hotel is an intimate boutique property. All rooms are individually chic and modern with extra-length beds, lounge area with fireplace and dining room for private dining. The hotel is known for its personal service.
Depending on time of arrival, we suggest pre-booking a half day private WIndhoek City Tour, giving you an enriching overview of the city’s major sites from the early 20th Century. If you prefer to freshen up and enjoy the facilities at the hotel, have a refreshing beverage from your dedicated mini-bar while sitting around the main swimming pool.
Wake up and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at The Olive restaurant. After an easy check out, the guide will transfer you to the nearby airstrip for your scenic 50-minute light-aircraft flight to the Namib Desert. You’ll catch a bird’s-eye view of Namibia’s captivating western escarpment with rugged mountain ranges before landing on the open plains of 200 000 hectares at the NamibRand Nature Reserve. There is a short 4×4 drive to the striking Kwessi Dunes Lodge. Check into the luxury thatched roof chalet and start soaking up the beauty of the colorful landscape. The chalets are perfectly situated for gazing at the stars that light up the night sky, perfect for honeymooners.
This is the ultimate desert getaway and has 12 comfortable air-conditioned chalets with canvas walls and thatched roofs and a separate star gazing room completely open to the sky. A swimming pool in the main public area is welcome during the hot summer months in the desert. In the evening enjoy the atmosphere of the bar followed by relaxing in the lounge area.
Explore the open plains of the reserve with a morning guided walk discovering the small desert animals, followed by horse-riding or quad bike drives in the dunes and ending off with a sundowner 4×4 game drive as the sun sets and the stars start to light up the night sky. This is the perfect location to soak up the beauty of the landscape.
Start the day with a morning desert walk and then a delicious breakfast at the lodge. Then a transfer back to the local airstrip with a light aircraft-flight towards the Atlantic Coast. You will pass the Eduard Bohlen, one of the most famous shipwrecks as well as Conception Bay and Sandwich Harbor until finally approaching one of the most remote regions of Kaokoland. A lodge representative will meet and transfer you to Hoanib Valley Camp in Kaokoland, where you will enjoy time at leisure. Your time here will be enjoyed on morning and afternoon game drives learning about its remarkable flora and fauna including giraffe research, which is conducted in this area. You should also be lucky enough to see lions and elephants come down to drink by the nearby river.
In the heart of the Skeleton Coast is Hoanib Valley Camp. Six spacious tents that blend seamlessly with the environment and have writing desks, fans as well as en-suite bathrooms with showers. The tents lead out onto private verandahs with a seating area that looks out over the vast expanse of the region. The afternoons are sure to be spent at the refreshing main swimming pool.
Embark on a guided nature walk and uncover the smaller flora and fauna of the desert. Twice daily game drives ensure you get to see first-hand unique desert adapted wildlife – brown hyenas and jackals. A highlight will be sundowners under the African stars, followed by interacting with the local Himba tribe at dinner.
After a hearty breakfast, your dedicated guide will transfer you by road to the Skeleton Coast, which should take around six hours at a slow and scenic pace. The area is renowned for its many shipwrecks along the coast. During the drive along the ephemeral Hoanib River, there will be large herds of elephants, spectacular views and a salty sea breeze. After checking in, take time to relax and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Take a walk on the beach searching for whale bones and debris from dentures of shipwrecks and clay castles, or soak in the natural beauty of the Skeleton Coast as fog rolls along the coastline. This is truly a bucket list destination and ‘landscape’ safari.
This is considered a once in a lifetime location and known for the unique comfortable accommodation which is 10 ship-wrecked shaped chalets, including some family cabins. All well-designed bedrooms overlook the vast dunes and distant ocean and there is also an outdoor terrace for your convenience.
A number of activities can be arranged, ranging from sandboarding, guided quad biking, beach picnic lunches with gourmet food, beachside barbecues, visits to the magnificent Hoarusib River bed and very special sundowner drives. On the beach you are bound to see hundreds of seals and some local antelope species.
On your penultimate day of this safari to Namibia, following breakfast you will board a scenic light aircraft flight back to Windhoek Eros Airport. From this domestic airport you will be transferred to the 5-star Zannier Omaanda Lodge for one night. This is the perfect ending to the 9 day itinerary as it is close to Eros Airport, offers great hospitality, places conservation at its core and offers game viewing in one, unique location. After check in, have a signature refreshing alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage at the infinity pool which overlooks the watering hole. In the evening, enjoy time in front of the many fireplaces in the main public areas.
Located in the private Zannier Reserve, Omaanda Lodge comprises 10 spacious and luxurious thatched huts each fitted with an open fireplace and private sun terrace. There are also two-bedroomed chalets for friends and families. Guests can also enjoy the lodge’s in-house spa for beauty treatments, bar, heated infinity pool and restaurant.
Daily activities are tailored to your interest and two experiences are included per day. Explore the reserve on conservation focused sunrise and sunset safari game drives, track rhino, elephant and big cats alongside your expert guide, or visit the meerkat clan at sunrise to witness their antics in the wild.
Day 9 marks the final day of your fly-in trip to Namibia. After a refreshing breakfast, you will be transferred to the Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport for your onward journey home.
