Campaigns that champion change
The OKOA Fund was created by a close-knit team of environmentalists and campaigners with a passion for conservation in Africa. With extensive experience in the tourism industry, they have witnessed the powerful effects of transformative travel on rural communities and the environment first-hand. This was particularly prevalent during the global pandemic as the world became increasingly aware of its impact and unified in the desire for transformation.
The OKOA Fund was born as a foundation to strengthen this desire and work together to combat the challenges faced by nature and communities in Africa. The team is on a mission to strengthen this global movement by creating a reliable platform to provide, preserve and protect through carefully vetted campaigns that champion change.
What they do
The team at the OKOA Fund are currently volunteering their time and resources to connect with reputable organizations to raise funds and spread awareness on their behalf.
Providing these organizations with much-needed assistance to continue their positive work, they aim to strongly impact sustainability efforts across a wide range of projects.
Through a carefully vetted network of reputable NGOs, they provide a safe and transparent platform for fundraising where donations are distributed into the right hands to ensure a deep-rooted and positive impact is created.

About our partnership
At Ker & Downey® Africa, we strive to create life-changing travel experiences that give back to the planet. We have partnered with the OKOA Fund to further our responsible travel offering and help our clients play an active role in providing, preserving and protecting.
For each trip booked with Ker & Downey® Africa, our clients can choose to donate $100 or more to one of our Legacy Partners. Your donation to the OKOA Fund will go directly towards the team’s current campaign. Once the team has reached their goal for their current campaign, a new project will be vetted and launched. Projects range across wildlife conservation, community empowerment and social justice, and environmental sustainability.

Current campaign
The Bhongolethu Foundation in Masiphumelele, South Africa is a community development NGO that delivers progressive programmes in early childhood development, quality primary schooling, and adult education.
Since their inception in 2015, the school has extended their offering and expanded to accept more children of different age groups. The original class, who were just 3 – 4 years old when the school was built, are now in Grade 5 and a new classroom and resources are required to see them through Grade 6 in 2023. Having used all their available building space, the school is looking for a container classroom to add to the grounds and accommodate the children in their educational development.
The team at Bhongolethu are working hard at expanding and building schools and your donation will help them to extend their programmes to even more children and their families.
