The ground you’ll cover

This 7 Day Sahara Desert Trip will take you into the heart of the Ennedi massif. Located in the northeast of Chad, the region of Ennedi is a sandstone bulwark in the middle of the Sahara desert and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2016. Explore the unique terrain, local fauna and the nomadic culture by day and retreat to comfort at Warda Camp in the evenings. This mobile camp will introduce you life in the desert without sacrificing any of your creature comforts. Guided by a Société de Voyages Sahariens Guide your experience will be nothing short of authentic as you trek through the desert by camel, inspect age-old rock paintings, witness the second largest stone arch in the world and overnight in mobile camps in remote desert terrain.

A day-by-day break down of this trip.

Day one

Arrive Chad

Flight to Fada

Your Sahara Desert Trip starts with your transfer to the airport for your flight to Fada, a characteristic Saharan village consisting of houses made of “banco”, clustered around the old French colonial fort and the little market. After taking in the culture and running through logistics for your onwards travel, the crossing of the massif starts, a route which very few travellers have the opportunity to witness. A picnic lunch will be served en-route for a short break and refreshments. Along the route you will come across tassilian sandy formations, which resembles castles and cathedrals which have been shaped by the Saharan wind and sand over many years. The highlight of your journey today will be Terkey, a prominent rock formation deemed to be the most beautiful in the area.

Ennedi 6

Hold your breath as you have the opportunity to enter the formation to inspect the most important rock painting sites in the area. You will visit 2 sites, namely “of the flying horses” and “of the big cow”. Continue on the journey to reach your final destination for the day, Warda Camp. Warda Camp consists of 8 mobile tented suites each fitted with a private shower and field toilet. A communal tent is strategically assembled to create a space for relaxing, dining, and sharing experiences with fellow travelers. After you have settled in, dinner will be served under the Sahara star-lit sky.
