Africa is a continent filled with many natural wonders, including some of the iconic Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The south is home to a number of these extraordinary marvels and if witnessing them first-hand is something that interests you, then this 10-day Natural Southern Africa Wonders of the World travel itinerary is for you. This once-in-a-lifetime bucket list trip features Table Mountain, Victoria Falls and the iconic Okavango Delta, as well as some incredible wildlife. From the world’s largest free roaming wild animal, the largest collection of big cats, various cultures and pristine untouched nature, there is plenty to experience. Your journey begins in Cape Town for 3 nights, before spending some time in the famous Cape Winelands, and traveling across the border to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Your adventure ends with a high in the heart of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy some unique activities in a truly magical destination.
Are you ready?
Upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport you will enjoy a VIP Meet & Greet which will assist you from the moment you leave the plane. Once through customs a friendly Ker & Downey Africa representative will transfer you in a luxury vehicle to the elegant Queen Victoria Hotel in Cape Town. After checking in you will have time to freshen up and relax in your deluxe room or enjoy a refreshing beverage in the hotel bar. We recommend a local cocktail or a delicious Amarula – a popular South Africa cream liqueur. On day 2 you will enjoy a half-day guided tour of Cape Town and Table Mountain, one of the Africa wonders of the world you will be visiting on this trip. In the afternoon we recommend strolling through the vibey V&A Waterfront and exploring the over 200 shops and restaurants located right on your hotel’s doorstep. The following day your dedicated guide will fetch you for a full-day tour to Cape Point & Peninsula. This epic day tour is a great addon to any bucket list itinerary as it offers endemic fynbos, breathtaking bays, beaches and the bragging rights to say that you have stood at the most southwestern tip of the African continent.
The Queen Victoria is a distinguished boutique hotel situated in the heart of the famous V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. Located in a lovingly restored old dock building in this historic precinct, the hotel comprises luxurious rooms boasting breathtaking views of Table Mountain, as well as the Waterfront and working harbor.
You can spend your free time at the fully-equipped gym or pay a visit to the in-house designer spa boasting a sauna and solarium. Depending on the time of year, you can relax around the hotel’s swimming pool. A full hot and cold breakfast is served in the gourmet Dash restaurant which is situated right next to the harbor with panoramic views of the Waterfront.
Wave Cape Town goodbye after a delicious breakfast at the Queen Victoria Hotel, and enjoy a scenic luxury transfer to the iconic Cape Winelands. The transfer will take approximately 1 hour and takes you past many of South Africa’s most famous wine farms including Vrede en Lust. You will arrive at your next destination, Boschendal, which is one of the country’s oldest wine farms dating back to 1685. Today, it is a contemporary farm but still retains its history and charm. We have included this picturesque wine farm in your itinerary as it caters for all members of the family and has a good mix of activities, amenities, fruit orchards and vineyards. All the suites are beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you need. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the local farm-to-table cuisine in the Werf Restaurant with a bottle of delicious Boschendal wine.
Situated between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, this award-winning farm offers the perfect location, with sweeping views over the Simonsberg Mountains and lush rolling lawns. The estate offers a range of luxury wine farm accommodation all with an emphasis on stylish simplicity, offering a taste of authentic farm living with a contemporary feel.
Spend time exploring the hectares of vineyards on a guided farm tour or enjoy a delectable chocolate and wine pairing. In the afternoon, visit the on-site art gallery, partake in some well deserved retail therapy in the farm or homeware shop, or simply enjoy taking in the breathtaking scenery. There are many other activities offered including horse riding, mountain biking and hiking, as well as a children’s play center for the little ones.
After a hearty breakfast overlooking the expansive vegetable gardens at Boschendal, your guide will collect you and assist with your transfer to the Cape Town International Airport for your scheduled 3 hour flight to the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls. On arrival at the Victoria Falls International Airport, a representative from Ker & Downey® Africa will greet you and whisk you away to your next fabulous destination, located right on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. After a comfortable 45-minute drive, you will arrive at Matetsi Victoria Falls, where you will be staying at Matetsi River Lodge in a suite overlooking a private section of the Zambezi. A helicopter transfer can be arranged for those wanting to experience something extra special. Matetsi is well-known for its excellent cuisine and its impressive collection of unique wines. The following morning you will awaken to surreal views, birds chirping and sounds of the river right outside your luxurious suite – surely one of the best ways to wake up! During your stay you will get to witness the mighty Victoria Falls, another star on the Natural Africa Wonders of the World list that you will get to experience on this bucket list trip. You will be taken on an incredible guided tour of the Falls with a local guide, where you will be able to witness the world’s largest sheet of falling water – a truly spectacular sight to behold.
Matetsi River Lodge is located on a 50,000-hectare private reserve on the Zimbabwean side of Victoria Falls. Its close proximity to the Falls make exciting adventure activities accessible, while still providing guests with a refined and exclusive safari retreat with all the luxuries of a five-star lodge. Luxury suites on the banks of the river all come with private butlers, a private plunge pool and breathtaking views of the Zambezi.
Activities are plentiful and include an exclusive sunrise and sunset river cruise, canoeing in private kayaks, game drives in the reserve, guided safari walks and a guided tour of Victoria Falls – a truly iconic natural wonder of Africa. You can also pre-book spa treatments at the in-house spa or raise your heart rate in the fitness studio. For dinner, you will have the opportunity to dine under the African stars.
Enjoy a delicious locally sourced breakfast from resident chefs, Chef Shane and Chef Artwell before an easy check out and transfer through to Victoria Falls International Airport for a scheduled light aircraft flight to Kasane International Airport in Botswana. This is a very quick 45-minute flight. Once through customs you will board another light aircraft flight from Kasane through to your next lodge to begin the Botswana leg of your African wonders adventure. You will land at a local airstrip in the heart of the Okavango Delta, an area well known for its large concentration of wildlife, especially large packs of wild dogs. The friendly staff at the lodge will show you to your luxury tent located on a raised wooden platform and overlooking the Gomoti River. Between exhilarating safari activities, you will be able to enjoy all that the lodge has to offer, either at the pool with a refreshing drink in hand, or taking in the sweeping views of the magical Okavango.
Located on the fringe of the Gomoti Plains river system and floodplains, Gomoti Plains Camp is nestled under ancient Acacia trees. Accommodation is in 8 classic-style luxury tents and 2 family luxury tents, spaced out for utmost privacy. En-suite tents lead out to spacious wooden decks with outdoor showers and extensive sweeping views over the trees and bush.
During your stay at one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World in the Okavango Delta, Fill your days with land and water activities including mokoro safaris, twice daily game drives, walking safaris and motor boat safaris. Expect phenomenal wildlife encounters and look out for the famous wild dog packs.
Following your morning safari activity and hearty breakfast in the bush, you will board your scheduled flights to Maun International Airport where you will begin your journey home.
