Victoria Falls: You don't need a reason to visit

Inspiration

But we’ve listed five great ones. Transforming from a placid river into a series of waterfalls so large, the rising mist can be seen 25 miles away.

Nothing short of heavenly and known as one of the seven natural wonders of the world, only one man came close to lyrically capturing the essence of what has come to be known as Victoria Falls. In 1855 famed Euro explorer, David Livingstone happened upon the world heritage site, exclaiming:

“It seems so lovely, it must have been viewed by angels in their flight”.

Reasons to visit Victoria Falls | 01 Mist-tifying helicopter ride

Our list starts on a high note. What more could you ask for than an angel’s view of Mosi-oa-Tunya or “The Smoke That Thunders”. Board a 206B-3 longranger and utilise the phenomenal photo opportunities as you coast through mile-high misty clouds. We know that if it was up to you you’d be strapped to the copter by a steel cable, wearing white linen like a James Bond villain.

Don’t worry – we got you a window seat. Be prepared to spot herds of elephant downriver in Botoka Gorge.

Reasons to visit Victoria Falls | 02 Bungee jumping

Remember to bring your passport for this one as you will quite literally be hanging out on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Above the roaring Zambezi, the views from the bridge will sing to you… until you decide to jump off of it. Strapped into ankle and body harnesses, you’ll have roughly four seconds to take in the scenery as you plummet 364 feet. Shortly thereafter you are reeled back to safety, adrenaline pumping. You can only imagine the post-jump, fireside bragging rights.

Reasons to visit Victoria Falls | 03 Zambezi River white water rafting

Recognised as one of the top ten paddling rivers on the planet and acclaimed as ‘the wildest one-day whitewater trip” by enthusiasts. Be prepared to embark on trips aptly named ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ‘Oblivion’ and our favourite – “The Devil’s Toilet Bowl”. You’ll leave your hotel early and embark on a sunrise safety talk, before you are allowed to enter the water. Rightly so because you’ll have to shake hands with a 1 in 3 gradient, 750 vertical foot climb just to get to the boat. As you set foot in your raft, be prepared to rush through 56 kilometers of the world’s finest grade 5 rapids.

Reasons to visit Victoria Falls | 04 Devil's Pool

Perched on the edge of the falls, on the Zambian side, lies an almost invisible, naturally formed pool. A testament to the true-spirited adventurer, this trip will more than likely spark a heated debate with your travel insurance company. Be warned however, access is strictly forbidden outside of August – January due to high waters. If you can make it here in time though, you will likely never regret nor forget it. A short boat ride to Livingstone Island and the first location where David Livingstone first viewed the falls in 1855. As you casually slip(or jump) into the pools, you rest your arms on the edge of a rock, jutting out over a 330ft wall of water. You’re resisting a flow of 3000 cubic meters per second.

Reasons to visit Victoria Falls | 05 Swimming below the falls

You’ve attacked your adrenal glands by land, air and Zambezi. Now it’s time for something a little more laid back. Whether you’re out on a day trip or just winding down from our Quadripoint Luxventure®, nothing soothes the soul like a relaxing swim beneath the falls of the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Grab a bodyboard, ride the mini-rapids and sneak in a sundowner just before heading back to your hotel.
